Process Advisor - Support for Hearing Participants

What is a process advisor?

In some cases, the CER may assign Process Advisors to support the public and Indigenous people who are participating in public hearings.

Process advisors can help you with the following:

  1. Answer your questions about the hearing process
  2. Explain the different ways you may participate (intervenor, letter of comment) and what you can and cannot do in these roles
  3. Organize and run public information sessions and workshops
  4. Answer your questions about the Participant Funding Program and how to apply
  5. Discuss how you can apply to participate in the process
  6. Provide samples and templates and answer your questions about them
  7. Explain your role in the hearing
  8. Answer your process questions in person during the oral hearing

The CER is committed to fostering the full recognition and use of both English and French in Canadian society. Our bilingual Process Advisors offer services in both official languages and you can participate in a hearing in your official language of choice.

Process advisors cannot:

  1. Make your case for you, which means they cannot:
    1. Interpret the evidence for you
    2. Tell you what information you should give to the Commissioners
    3. Tell you how to best present your information
    4. Write your questions or evidence
  2. Talk to the Commissioners on your behalf
  3. Talk to a company on your behalf

How can I contact a process advisor?

When a process advisor is assigned to a hearing project, a notice is posted on the CER Web site. Under Major Applications and Projects, click on the link to the project and scroll down to Contact Information. You can also call the CER main line number, and your call will be forwarded to the appropriate Process Advisor (403-292-4800 or toll-free 1-800-899-1265). Process advisors will generally be available during business hours and respond to enquiries the following business day.
