New Contractor Oversight Guidance
August 7, 2026
Pipeline companies are responsible for making sure contractors work safely and follow the rules. Our new Contractor Oversight Guidance will help them make sure it happens.
Our Onshore Pipeline Regulations lay out all the rules companies must follow when building and operating a pipeline project. This includes sufficient oversight of their contractors. When rules aren’t followed, it can lead to serious injuries, damage to property and the environment and even death.
We met with companies and they told us how to improve our guidance on contractor oversight. We found common themes that our new guidance addresses.
- Contractors must be competent and trained for their job.
- Contractors must be supervised and their qualifications verified.
- There must be clear and consistent communication processes.
Creating better guidance for pipeline companies is one of the many ways we can help prevent incidents and keep people and pipelines safe.
Read all the details in our new Contractor Oversight Guidance.
