Project Background

Canadian Natural Resources Limited (CNRL) has filed an application for leave to abandon three pipeline segments in the Lloydminster region including the John Lake, John Fort Pitt and West Cosine Pipelines (Project). The pipelines have been in a deactivated state for more than five years and have no prospective future use. The Project will have no impacts on existing customers or service on the pipeline system.
Considering safety, environmental impacts, and current and future land use, CNRL has determined that abandonment in place is the most appropriate method of abandonment for these buried pipelines. CNRL expects that all physical abandonment activities will be confined to the existing roads, right-of-way, and previously disturbed areas where aboveground infrastructure is located. New permanent access roads are not expected to be required for the Project. All physical abandonment activities will be limited to the pipeline endpoints located on CNRL leases.

Abandonment activities for each pipeline are expected to take approximately five days. The targeted completion is Q4 2025 or earlier, contingent upon the timeline for application approval.
