Project Background

AltaGas Holdings Inc. on behalf of AltaGas Pipeline Partnership (AltaGas), has filed an application for leave to abandon in-place the Mica Pipeline (Pipeline), an approximately 6.6 km pipeline extending from 6-20-81-13W6 in British Columbia to 16-11-081-13W6 in Alberta (Application). Approximately 6.5 km of the Pipeline is in Alberta, while 0.1 km is in British Columbia. The Pipeline’s outside diameter is 168.3 mm, and it has a wall thickness of 4.8 mm. The Pipeline is externally coated with polyethylene, and it used to transport dry sweet natural gas. AltaGas proposes to remove all risers associated with the Pipeline through internal cold cutting. The Pipeline will also be isolated by mechanically capping and tagging the pipeline ends at the pipeline-level. All associated activities will be carried out in accordance with CSA Z662:23 – Oil and Gas Pipeline Systems.

The proposed abandonment activities are expected to be completed prior to 31 December 2025. The work is anticipated to take approximately 7 to 14 days to complete.
