Trans Mountain Pipeline ULC - Proposed Drag Reducing Agent Project
Project Background
Trans Mountain has filed a project notification for for authorization to install 16 drag reducing agent (DRA) units at 12 existing pump stations along Trans Mountain’s Line 1 and Line 2. The proposed DRA project is expected to increase total pipeline throughput capacity by approximately 10 per cent. The proposed DRA units will be contained within skid-mounted buildings located within the fence line at each existing pump station and will not require the acquisition of any new lands, or the disturbance of any environmental features. The scope of work at each site will include the delivery of a new DRA pre-fabricated building which will be approximately 3 metres x 12 metres. Trans Mountain anticipates the work at each pump station to take up to 2 weeks. The entire scope is expected to be completed within 8 months of initial construction start.
The proposed DRA project is planned to be filed with the CER in Q1 of 2026 pursuant to section 214 of the Canadian Energy Regulator Act (CER Act).
