Facilities we regulate

Two inspectors walk away from view along stacks of pipeline segments

Facilities like pipelines and power lines transport energy across the country to heat our homes, power our businesses, and to move us from place to place. The Canada Energy Regulator ensures the safe and efficient delivery of this energy, and the protection of the environments these facilities traverse. Explore the data sets and reports we routinely collect and publish on these facilities. Using tools like pipeline maps and interactive charts we make complex data user-friendly and accessible for Canadians.

Companies must report events, such as incidents and unauthorized activities, to the CER in accordance with the CER Event Reporting Guidelines. Knowing what happened, and why, helps us find ways to prevent them from happening again.

Compliance and enforcement

When companies do not meet requirements, we have the authority to take action to bring the company back into compliance so they are operating safely. We have a number of enforcement tools available.
