The Canada Energy Regulator’s regional office located in British Columbia

Our Work

We are the Canada Energy Regulator (CER), an organization with six decades of experience overseeing energy companies and projects in Canada. With a group of 500 highly qualified people from across the country, we work to keep energy moving safely. We are in charge of keeping watch over companies operating oil and gas pipelines and electrical powerlines that cross a national, provincial or territorial border. The companies we regulate must follow some of the strictest safety and environmental standards in the world.

Engaging Regionally

In British Columbia, our regional presence focuses on building relationships, raising awareness and understanding diverse perspectives to develop shared solutions. From there, our subject matter experts can provide information on damage prevention, emergency management, environment and oversight of operating facilities.

Who We Work With

CER Regulated Infrastructure in BC

Concerns at a local level can be multi-faceted and multi-jurisdictional. Addressing these diverse issues requires those affected by CER regulated infrastructure, subject matter experts, government officials and companies to work together. The regional office focus is from the time a project is approved through to the construction, operation and abandonment phases. We facilitate collaboration and coordination by engaging with:

  • Indigenous Peoples
  • People and organizations living and working near pipelines
  • Regulated companies and industry groups
  • Federal departments, local and provincial governments
