What to expect under the new Engagement and Indigenous Relations (E&IR) Team

The NEB provided an overview of the importance of engagement in our current operating context while recognizing the efforts and achievements of the Land Matters Group over the last 6 years.

The NEB discussed what members can expect under the new E&IR team including a review of the existing Terms of Reference, Governance and

Modernization – Natural Resources Canada (NRCan)

NRCan provided an update on Modernization and the Government’s release of a Discussion Paper for public comment on 29 June, 2017 with a deadline to comment at the end of August 2017.

Steering Committee members were invited to participate in a teleconference meeting on 21 July 2017 with the Modernization Secretariat in order to provide feedback on the contemplated measures outlined in the Discussion Paper.

Review of Subcommittee Report and Recommendations

The NEB provided an overview of the Subcommittee on Landowner Guidance Report and Recommendations and proposed the Report be endorsed by the Steering Committee as presented.

LMG Steering CommitteMembers agreed that the official endorsement of the Subcommittee’s report and recommendations and the Subcommittee’s dissolution would be done via electronic vote by e-mail.

An update is to be provided at the next in-person meeting in the Fall.

Update on Advanced Phases of the Pipeline Lifecycle Project

The NEB advised SC members that the Panel has put consultation for this activity on hold, and an analysis of previous consultation on this topic is underway. There may be additional opportunities for engagement on this topic going forward, and we will be sure to advise the Steering Committee of any upcoming opportunities.

Next Steps Land Matters Group

The NEB is undertaking a review of the Terms of Reference that was approved by the Steering Committee last July.

A proposed amended Terms of Reference will be circulated for the SC review prior to the Fall meeting.

Next LMG SC Meeting (Calgary – in person)

Dates were proposed and follow up will take place to confirm a date.
